After a few days of not having our full class we finally got a class photo.

I can't tell you how much these wonderful children mean to me already.

...and of course  the fun photo.

Super Friends

Today we learned about how to be a  'Super Friend'.

We learned that when we have a problem with friends we
need to Stop, think (about which super power to use) and then what to do to solve the problem.

Our Super powers are  -

Here are our amazing Super Friends of Room 13.

Exploring Time

(This is the new name for Discovery Time - to link to our School Vision).
This was our goal today -

As it was Chinese New Year today we celebrated with some Chinese activities,
such as writing Chinese numbers...

...and Chinese Dragons

Classroom routines

We are getting used to the Room 13 classroom routines and expectations.
Here are some of our routines for reading.
The children work from a task board showing must do's and can do's.
This promotes self management while I am working with groups or individuals.

First they have some time reading (or looking ) at a book on their own.

Next they read with a buddy.
When children are buddy reading this is what they follow.

What a great start. The children certainly are following routines well already.

Room 13 you ROCK!

I Belong

This is the name of our Inquiry for the beginning of the year.
We are learning about ourselves, each other, our families, our environments.
We have been colouring 'hands' since the 'visit the classroom' before school started. It has been wonderful to have parents and grandparents contribute to this as well.
On Friday, we discussed how we are all unique and special and when we come together we are strong and 'belong'. We put the beautiful hands together to make an amazing flower which shows our connectedness - including parents and grandparents.

Come and see it on the wall in our room.

Week 2 Term 1

Discovery

Today in Discovery we were learning to be kind and respectful when completing our tasks.
We had lots of fun things to do!
See for yourself in the photos.
Making foam cars - 'c' our focus letter this week.

Sharing the water paints

Sharing the decorations and taking turns with  the
glue while decorating our photo frames.

Tiffany's fast car.

Shawn's finished photo frame.

Mackenzie and her zooming car.

Playing together with the Tea set shows kindness.

Sophie carefully, coloured, and cut out her cat mask.

We had fun folding flowers to give Miss Drake as it was her birthday.

So beautiful!

Room 13 children are very kind, and helpful.
They were great at tidying up after Discovery by working together.

Another cool cat mask.

Even the tables were cleaned.
Parents, you are so lucky to have these helpful children.
They must help so much at home too.

Reflections
After discovery we reflect on how we worked in relation to our learning goal.
The comments can be seen below.

What a fabulous start to the year.

Confidence in the pool

Today we went to the school pool with Room 7.
We had fun on, in and even under the water.
Check out the happy faces of our swimmers.

Welcome to Room 13 2018

So exciting! Another year ahead.

The 2018 school year has begun.
It promises to be a fabulous year with the most amazing children in Room 13.
Please check this blog regularly. You will find photos, digital records, examples of the children's work and notices of upcoming events.
It would be wonderful to read your comments on the items too.
I am including an explanation of the value of play as a way to learn as this is vital to the way Room 13 operates.

I am looking forward to working with your child and getting to know them and you.

Regards
Julia Hinman
