Cup Cake Fundraising

What a fun day we had today.
Thank you for the wonderful cup cakes delivered to school this morning and all the frosting and sprinkles too.
A BIG thank you to Nathari's parents and Tara's mum for 'lending a hand' in the classroom.
The children had a ball, icing and decorating around 100 cupcakes in Room 13.
The children each made one for themselves which they put aside. Then they decorated the rest.

The best part - eating them!

We sold the cupcakes at lunchtime in Room 14. The line of children was out the door!!!
We are so pleased with the results.
Now we're just waiting to find out how much money we raised - and how much that will reduce the cost for our trip.
So exciting....

Maths
Today we worked together to solve a maths problem.

We decided that there were quite a few different ways we could solve this problem.

Children's first thoughts on how we could solve our problem.

Some counted the shoes.

Some drew the shoes and counted them.

We had such a great discussion about the different ways. One thing that tricked us was that today there were only 16 children at school and we forgot to include the shoes of the children who were away.
It was great to see the busy brains giving it a go.

We also looked at how many shoes their would be if there were 20 children in Room 13.
Alex said it would be 20 + 20. Great thinking. Tricky to work out.
We then talked about using what we know
e.g. we know that 2+2=4
so that means 20 + 20 = 40

A big thing we discovered today is that we need to use what we know and look for patterns in the maths.
This was a great introduction to counting in 2's and how it can help us solve problems.
We will do lots of counting in 2's now.
I wonder how high we can go??
Study ladder

These are our recent study ladder enthusiasts. They are really enjoying completing the activities and consolidating their learning. Well done girls.

Week 2 Exploring Time

This week we focussed on helping and supporting each other, which relates to our value of being KIND.
During our Exploring time we made our Mother's Day cards, Leaf Men pictures and had some challenges such as building a car that is pushed by the wind and lego challenges. I hope you enjoy the photos below.

Shawn built a panda out of lego.

Tiffany built her bedroom out of lego.

Will built a robot out of lego.

Alex and Le Chen helped each other to build a
car that moves with the wind.

Ashley's mother's day card to show the outside of the cards - blowing kisses.

Our Mother's Day Cards drying

After reading the book 'The Leaf Man' we made our own leaf men.

They all have their own personalities. I have taken photos of the
leaf men to display in the class. The leaves don't stick very well.

Cultural Boxes
I was so proud of the children and their presentations this week. They also showed pride for their cultures and the items they shared.
